The first image was developed from a quote of Alan Fletcher’s which was a key source of inspiration along with traces of the beat generation. This has actually become the reverse of my business cards, perforated accordingly and folded into separate quarters of the main image. The idea is that someone will have a set of four they can then tear off and pass on. Or if they wish, keep the full set.
I always begin by creating random marks. Printing with rollers and found objects using acrylics, the use of scribbles and inks creates a spontaneity that cannot be generated by a computer. These marks are later scanned and built up using the channels and layers in Photoshop. Ninety percent of the time I will use my own photography, which I rarely leave untouched. We have creative control, not the machine.
':cr3at3 :contro7' was created to accompany an article I wrote for F!rst Point Magazine, but in the end they decided to use ':t3rmina7 :conditon.'
